Lucky Octavian

100,000 people entered the competition because they thought they had what it takes to be the next Indonesian Idol. Most of them were wrong, not Lucky Octavian. As time has passed, the judges and then Luckyholics has decided who would go and who would stay.

Beginning as the television show Pop Idol in the United Kingdom, the ’idol’ franchise, which Freemantle Media is one of them, (as it is known as a whole) has become a world phenomenon, taking by storm more than twenty countries. For a complete list of all the countries "Idol" has been in, please visit the Indonesian Idol page here.

Unlike other reality series, Idol is a musical talent search for an ultimate superstar that lets the audience vote for their favorite performers. Canadian judges scour the country to find a group of talented, unsigned individuals who have the voice and the look to continue on in the competition.

After a round of eliminations, where William Hung was eliminated, a group of semi-finalists are chosen by the judges to go head-to-head in front of television cameras to vie for a spot in the finals. After semi-finals with Lucky Octavian among them and once a group of finalists (e.g. Delon) has been created by the at-home votes, the show moves on to the LIVE audience, the huge stage and the battle for the title of Idol.

Each week carries a different theme or genre of music like Big Band, Motown or the 70’s. Contestants (e.g. Lucky Octavian) perform to the assigned theme each week singing to get their votes. After a performance show, a results show follows to vote contestants off until the last man (or woman) is standing.

Members of Lucky Octavian Official Fan Club (LOOFC, read: lufsi) for the first time held a private concert for their idol, Lucky Octavian, a finalist of Indonesian Idol, on January 9, 2005 at ZOOM Resto & Lounge, Jakarta. These luckyholics (a nickname for Lucky’s fans) prepared the event in only 3 weeks! At first it was planned as a gathering, a kind of meet and greet, but the event soon developed into a mini concert, though it wasn’t mini at all, because Lucky was set to sing 17 out of the 20 songs on the list! Lucky Octavian’s Private Concert was sponsored by SDGI and Pro Natural 2000 with C’nS Magazine, MTV, and Freemantle Media as official media partners.

Lucky performed with the accompaniment of Lucky Octavian NOCTURNE Band, and did a duet with Melanie Putria, Eq WEEBE, Mario KAHITNA, and with Indonesian Idol’s Bona and Winda, with Ata as the MC.

Besides organizing the mini concert, LOOFC also launched Lucky Octavian Official Web Site (LOOWS, read: luwes) at http://www.luckyoctavian.com. There was also a question and answer session between Lucky and luckyholics, door prizes, a singing game on ’Nuansa Bening’, a photo session, and an auction selling off Lucky’s cap, jacket, and three photos. The money from the auction was donated to RCTI Peduli to support the victims of the earthquake and Tsunami in NAD, Sumatera Utara, and surrounding areas. Lucky and Ata also asked the audience to stand up and say a prayer for the victims. LOOFC surprised their idol by bringing some of Lucky’s past time friends on stage. The concert was closed with two encores, ’Cinta Sejati’ and ’All Night Long.’ Luckyholics hung around the venue long after the photo session was over, unwilling to leave, especially Septi, a fan from Semarang. ice_tea (as reported by Agung Legiarta)
